  • Peer Specialist/Advocate

The Peer Specialist/Advocate engages and encourages mental health peers in recovery, and provides peers with a sense of community and belonging, supportive relationships, and valued roles. Volunteer Opportunities

Because of limited funding opportunities for peer mental health services, MHA often looks to our generous community for support. If you are unable to make a financial or material donation, consider a donation of time!

Note: MHA may be able to assist with obtaining Peer Certification for positions that require it.

  • Provide non-crisis support to callers including reassurance and referrals to local emergency, mental health or other social services. This position requires NYS Peer Certification. See the bottom of the page for more information regarding how to obtain certification.

  • This position supports day-to-day administration duties for the organization including but not limited to greeting visitors, answering incoming calls and referring to
    appropriate staff members.

  • Assist MHA in developing and implementing fundraising activities and identifying and applying for grants and other funding opportunities.

  • Assist MHA staff in the delivery of adult programming and activities of the Peer Outreach Center.

  • The Mental Health Association in Tompkins County is seeking volunteer Board Members.
    Board commitment includes:


    - Attendance at quarterly board meetings held on a Monday from 5-7pm
    - Participation on at least one committee of the Board
    - Planning for and attendance at an annual fundraising event
